Senior Years
SENIOR YEARS (10, 11 & 12)
A comprehensive and well-tailored education will enable a young person to pursue the career of their choice and also maintain a healthy and balanced approach to a life of continued learning.
McClelland’s whole-college approach to developing independent and personalised learning as a life-long skill is quickly gaining positive recognition, with initiatives to support personalised learning skills and resilience first introduced in Year 7 now having a marked impact at senior levels. We are very proud of our VCE results, with many of our graduates pursuing tertiary studies at University and TAFE.
In addition to a comprehensive range of studies for the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), students at McClelland are also provided with opportunities to pursue studies in Vocational Educational and Training (VET). Courses options include Automotive, Building and Construction, Childcare, Hospitality, Horticulture, SES – Rescue, Fitness and Training, Music, Art and Design, etc. McClelland cooperates with other training facilities allowing students to undertake study combinations that suit their skills, interests and personal needs, including specialist ‘off-campus’ studies of choice.
The VCE Vocational Major (VM) is a vocational and applied learning program within the VCE designed to be completed over a minimum of two years. The VCE VM gives students greater choice and flexibility to pursue their strengths and interests and develop the skills and capabilities needed to succeed in further education, work and life.
It prepares students to move into apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and training, university (via non-ATAR pathways) or directly into the workforce.
To ensure the greatest chances for success, a personal counselling program is conducted so that students enrol in senior courses most appropriate to their skills, interests and future goals.
